It was an atmosphere full of melancholy at 8 Amusa lane, off Ojo road in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, home of the 20-year-old lady allegedly shot by policemen on Saturday morning.

Ada Ifeanyi and her two friends, Emmanuel and Faith were reportedly driving from Ajegunle to a hotel at Coconut area where Emmanuel reportedly lodged when Police started chasing them with a motorcycle and eventually shot at them when they failed to stop.

While Ada did not survive the gunshot, doctors are reportedly battling to save the life of her male friend, 32-year-old Emmanuel Akomafuwa who sustained grievous injuries from the gunshot. The third person in the car identified as Faith was unhurt.

The parents and siblings of the deceased broke down in tears as they made attempts to share memories of their last moments with Ada.

Their a room and parlour apartment on the one storey building has been jam-packed with sympathisers from the neighbourhood.

It was gathered that Ada’s parents have not been living together following unresolved marital issues. The mother lives around Iyana-Iba area of Lagos while the father resides at Ajegunle.

The mother Mrs Ifeanyi could not believe she would not be spending the Easter season with her daughter who had promised to come home for Easter celebration. She described the deceased as “a very good, friendly and loving girl who always make friends anywhere she gets to.”

According to her, Ada had promised to come to her place at the Iyana-Iba area to celebrate Easter with her, but sadly that would never happen.

The grieving mother said:

“I spoke with her on Friday afternoon and she promised to come see me next week so we can celebrate Easter together.

“She’s a daughter I don’t want to miss in life. She had a loving heart, she was friendly and doesn’t want trouble.

“When they called me around 7am that my daughter has been shot by the police, I rushed down there and saw my child lying dead. A girl of just 20 years died like a chicken.

“What did they find on her that made them fire her? If they had shot the tyre, at least the car would stop.

“Is that what the government want for us? I want justice for my child.”

Mama Ada said she has only one wish if she could see her daughter again.

“I wish she could live again for me, but it’s impossible she’s gone forever,” Mrs Ifeanyi said as she broke down in tears.

Unlike Mama Ada, the father could not muster the emotional courage to speak, all he could utter was “I love her so much, all I want is justice.”
