Nollywood actress, Wumi Toriola, has been hospitalised following intense online criticism that trailed her recent response to veteran actor and director Afeez Owo.
The backlash erupted after Wumi publicly reacted to comments made by Afeez Owo during a recent interview, where he reflected on their strained relationship and her performance in a recent movie.
Afeez, who is married to actress Mide Martins, had shared that he and Wumi were once close collaborators, often writing scripts and producing films together, but that dynamic has since changed.
Wumi disagreed with his remarks and expressed her views in a public post, which quickly drew sharp reactions from social media users and fans—many of whom sided with Afeez.
On Thursday morning, the actress revealed via social media that the pressure from the criticism had taken a toll on her health, resulting in her hospitalisation. She posted a photo of herself lying on a hospital bed, linking her condition directly to the stress caused by the online attacks.
She wrote: “Internet dragging and ICU are siblings. I have heard you all, will do better next time. Wish me quick recovery.”
The statement came after Wumi’s earlier public reaction to Afeez’s interview, where she had addressed the veteran actor directly, stating: “I still respect you despite all your unfortunate behaviours.”
Her emotional response ignited debate within the industry and among fans, leading to increased scrutiny of her conduct and professional relationships.
Wumi has since acknowledged the impact of the situation and assured her followers that she would take a more measured approach moving forward.
