Veteran Nollywood actor, Emeka Ike, has announced his decision to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
The movie star revealed that he will seek to represent the Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress.
Explaining his motivation for entering politics, Ike stated that his goal is to help establish a “proper systematic structure” capable of improving governance and accelerating national development.
“I am running for the federal house of representatives under the Bwari federal constituency in Abuja,” he said.
“We want to make a statement. I want to step into the real thing right now if I have made you, Nigerians, happy. Let us see how we bring dividends close to you.
“Let us block the boys who think they have the power. If we stand they will run.”
A video currently making rounds online captured the moment the actor received his nomination form from a party official, marking the official start of his campaign activities.
A member of his campaign organisation also confirmed that Ike had already secured victory in the NDC primaries and is now focusing on preparations for the 2027 polls.
This will not be the actor’s first attempt at elective office. Back in 2018, he contested for a House of Representatives seat under the Young Progressive Party (YPP), representing Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.
His latest political ambition further highlights the increasing number of Nigerian entertainers venturing into politics ahead of the next election season.
Outside politics, Ike remains one of Nollywood’s most prominent figures. He gained widespread fame after starring in the 1994 blockbuster Deadly Affair and later featured alongside notable actors such as Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Chioma Chukwuka, Kate Henshaw, Desmond Elliot, Jim Iyke and Ramsey Nouah.
Following a lengthy absence from the movie industry, Emeka Ike made his Nollywood comeback in 2023 with a role in Malaika, produced by Toyin Abraham.
