Veteran Nollywood actor Chinedu Okeke has debunked rumours suggesting he abandoned the film industry due to being repeatedly cast in criminal roles.
The actor, renowned for his performances in action movies such as Issakaba, Peace Maker, Shina Rambo, and V-Boot, addressed the speculation in a recent interview.
Rumours circulating earlier this year alleged that Okeke became weary of portraying armed robbers and violent characters, reportedly appealing to filmmakers for softer, non-criminal roles.
It was also claimed that his on-screen persona began to influence how people perceived him in real life, prompting his alleged withdrawal from Nollywood.
In his response, Okeke dismissed the reports as false and clarified that he never made any such statements. He emphasised that the roles in action films were instrumental in shaping his career and expressed no regrets about the parts he has played.
He said: “What do you think made me who I am today? It’s action movies, so why would I complain? I never granted that interview.”
Reaffirming his passion for acting, Okeke stated that he remains active and willing to take on any character, including romantic ones. He appealed to film producers to consider him for new projects, stressing his readiness to return to the screen.
“Please, producers, call me now. I want to work. I’m redundant and looking for work, any role. Be it the role of an armed robber or assassin. If you have a romantic role too, bring it, I want it and make people understand that I can do anything,” he added.
