The cousin of Nollywood actor Amaechi Mounagor, Tony Muonagor, disclosed that the actor is currently struggling with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke during his three-week hospital admission.
Tony provided insights into the actor’s health challenges, emphasizing the need for sustained support to facilitate his treatment and recovery.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Tony shared, “Amaechi is currently down with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke. He had been managing his diabetes over the years and living his life. He is presently undergoing weekly dialysis and other treatments at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi.”
Highlighting the actor’s resilience in managing diabetes for years, Tony clarified that Amaechi’s family had been shouldering the costs until a recent stroke intensified his condition, making it more challenging and expensive to address.
Tony expressed gratitude for the support received so far and aimed to provide clarity amidst online speculations.
Contrary to some online reports, Tony emphasized their family connection, stating, “Amaechi is my first cousin. His father and my father are of the same father.”
He praised the actor, acknowledging their strong bond within the film industry. “We have had a wonderful relationship as members of the same industry, and I am proud of him as a ‘brother,'” Tony added.
Tony highlighted the positive response from fans, friends, and well-wishers who have been contributing to Amaechi’s medical expenses. He acknowledged the various groups that have rallied to donate money for the actor’s hospital bills.
Providing an update on Amaechi’s condition, Tony stated, “As of today, there’s some improvement. His blood sugar is under control, but he is still on admission, weekly dialysis, physiotherapy, and other treatments. His full treatments and recovery require sustained funding or donations.”
