Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has said that his role in Love In Every Word may not be his best performance, even though the film has become very popular.
In an interview, Arukwe shared that he was surprised by how fast the movie gained attention. He said,
“I was shocked, nobody saw it coming. I was on set and then Omoni called and said we are premiering very soon, so just help me and post, and I was like okay mama. Just another day at work, and the next thing was—it took off.”
The romantic drama, directed by actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli, has gathered over 20 million views on YouTube within a month, making it one of the most-watched Nigerian films in early 2025.
Arukwe played the character Odogwu Obiora, a rich Igbo man who showers his partner Chioma, played by Bamike “BamBam” Olawunmi, with love and luxury.
While many fans praised the storyline for showing love and care in relationships, some critics felt the film made Igbo men look too soft or overly generous.
But Arukwe stated how effortless the role was for him. “I wouldn’t say it’s my best performance because I have done other Igbo-accented films that I was more prepared for, that I knew I was right there in the center of the character,” he explained. This one was a walk in the park for me—not in a bad way—because I understood the guy already. I had gone through the script; it wasn’t hard.”
He also added that showing care in relationships should not be seen as weakness.
“Caring for your partner is a sign of responsibility, not a weakness,” he said.
Arukwe praised his co-star BamBam, saying her talent and professionalism made their scenes more real.
“She brought great energy to the set, and our chemistry made the story believable,” he said.
Despite Arukwe’s humble remarks, fans and critics agree that his performance played a big part in the film’s success.
