The Accord Party has affirmed businessman and politician, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election following the successful conduct of its affirmation primaries across several states.
According to The Punch, Olawepo-Hashim secured 423,902 affirmative votes in the exercise, which party officials described as peaceful, transparent and a demonstration of members’ confidence in his leadership.
A statement issued by the Olawepo-Hashim Media Office said the primaries recorded a massive turnout of party members and supporters across participating states.
Although he emerged as the sole aspirant and was unopposed, the party conducted the affirmation exercise to allow members formally endorse his candidature through a democratic process.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer for Kebbi State, Yahaya Mohammed, said the exercise complied with the party’s guidelines and reflected overwhelming support for the candidate.
Mohammed disclosed that Jigawa State recorded the highest number of votes with 198,200, followed by Kano State with 124,101 votes.
He added that Nasarawa State delivered 47,309 votes, Kebbi State recorded 46,852 votes, Kwara State returned 3,348 votes, while Lagos State contributed 4,548 affirmative votes.
“The exercise was peaceful, transparent and credible. The outcome demonstrates the confidence party members have in Dr Olawepo-Hashim and his vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria,” Mohammed said.
Party officials said the outcome signalled growing support for Olawepo-Hashim and showed the party’s readiness to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Supporters of the candidate described his emergence as a significant milestone for the party and expressed optimism that the Accord Party would offer Nigerians a credible alternative in the next general election.
They also portrayed Olawepo-Hashim as a bridge builder capable of promoting national unity and addressing divisions across regional and religious lines.
A former student activist and businessman, Olawepo-Hashim previously contested the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the People’s Trust and has consistently advocated policies focused on national unity, economic reform, restructuring, security and job creation.
Founded in 2006, the Accord Party has maintained a presence in Nigeria’s political landscape and is regarded as one of the country’s notable alternative political parties.
Olawepo-Hashim’s emergence adds to the growing list of politicians preparing for the 2027 presidential election as political activities continue to gather momentum across the country.
