OWERRI, Nigeria – The Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo State, overturned an earlier ruling on Thursday by recognizing Lamido Apapa as the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party.

The court dismissed Julius Abure as chairman and nullified the candidacies of several gubernatorial hopefuls affiliated with his faction.

According to a report from PUNCH, the Appellate Court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the approved candidates submitted by Apapa’s National Working Committee for the governorship elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi States with immediate effect

Thursday’s appeals decision conflicts directly with a Court of Appeal ruling on April 14th in Benin City that had reaffirmed Abure’s chairmanship. Additionally, a State High Court in Edo had rejected a motion by Labour Party members to suspend Abure from the position.
