One year after the pipeline explosion in Abule Ado, the Lagos State government has revealed that 102 Internally Displaced Persons were accommodated at the LASEMA Relief Camp in Agbowa for six months.
This was disclosed by Commissioner for Special Duties and lnter-Governmental Relations, Tayo Bamgbose-Martins during the presentation of land documents to the representatives of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos.
Bamgbose-Martins explained that the documents are for a four-hectare of land given to the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos as compensation for Bethlehem Girls College, which was affected by the unfortunate incident of March 15, 2021 in Abule-Ado
While highlighting some immediate interventions taken by the governor, the commissioner disclosed that each family of the 23 deceased persons was presented with a cheque of N2.5 million.
“Aside from that, 102 Internally Displaced Persons were accommodated at the LASEMA Relief Camp, Agbowa for six months. On exit from the camp, each family and individual was given cash stipends to ease their integration into the society,” he stated.
During the official presentation of the documents to the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Bamgbose-Martins reiterated that the decision was in fulfilment of the promise of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu.
He further explained that the handover took long because government needed to ensure that the location of the land will be convenient for students and staff of the school.
He also admitted that several buildings were affected by the incident, but noted that the damage done to the Bethlehem Girl’s College at Abule Ado, was devastating.
