Abuja NSCDC officers shoot students during examination
Three personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have been arrested and detained by the Nigeria Police on Wednesday for shooting two students of Senior Secondary School, Life Camp in Abuja.
The incident occurred within the Jabi and Gwarinpa areas of the Federal Capital Territory.
The two students who were shot are currently receiving medical treatment at Gwarinpa Hospital.
The NSCDC operatives were reportedly at the school to provide security during an ongoing examination.
The incident took place around 11:20 am on Wednesday. In response to the shooting, angered high school students expressed their displeasure by vandalizing three patrol vehicles belonging to the NSCDC in protest against the attack on their injured colleagues.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, stating, “The incident happened, but our operatives intervened in time to restore law and order, and the environment is now peaceful. Two injured students are currently receiving treatment, and the CP, Haruna Garba, has ordered the commencement of an investigation into the incident.”
While the FCT Police have taken swift action to address the situation, the FCT Command of the NSCDC has yet to provide a statement regarding the incident.
Comfort Okomanyi, the spokesperson for the FCT NSCDC, mentioned being indisposed and promised to make inquiries from the command.
“I’m sorry, I’m currently indisposed. However, I’ll reach out to the command for an update on the matter, and I’ll get back to you,” Okomanyi stated.
