A female student at Federal Government College Umuahia, Abia State, is set to face disciplinary actions after biting off part of another student’s tongue during a fight.

The injured student, who lost her taste buds in the incident, has now been discharged from the hospital and can speak.

This development was shared in a press release by the President of the Federal Government Girls College Umuahia Alumnae Association, Jenny Anusiem, on Monday. She confirmed that the student who bit her colleague is now in police custody.

The incident happened on October 23, 2024, after breakfast when a disagreement over food led to a physical fight. Describing the situation, the press release stated, “The incident took place after breakfast… where two students fought over food issues, and one was so violent that she bit off the other’s tongue (taste bud part).” School staff and security personnel quickly intervened, controlling the situation and notifying authorities, including the PTA, the local authorities, and the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Alumnae Association said it has been in touch with the victim’s father and is collaborating with both the school and law enforcement to ensure a thorough investigation. They added that the school will apply disciplinary actions as per its code of conduct.

The spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the police are investigating the incident, noting that both students involved are minors. The victim was treated at Chukwuebuka Hospital, while the investigation continues.
