The Abia State government has refuted circulating reports claiming that Governor Alex Otti has left the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress.
The rumours gained traction after a photo surfaced last week showing Governor Otti visiting his Enugu State counterpart, Governor Peter Mbah, shortly before Mbah’s defection to the APC.
The visit was interpreted by some individuals as part of Otti’s supposed preparation to join the ruling party at the national level.
Responding to the claims on Monday, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, dismissed the reports as unfounded and politically motivated.
He described them as deliberate fabrications by those seeking to mislead the public.
“Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the platform under which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him to serve,” Kanu stated.
“His focus remains unshaken, to rebuild Abia, restore accountability, and deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen of the State,” he added.
The commissioner urged the public to ignore the defection rumours, describing them as yet another round of “cheap propaganda.”
