A former Chairman of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Mr Hassan Biu Miringa, has appealed for assistance, revealing that his abductors are demanding a ransom of $300,000 for his release.
Recall that Miringa, alongside councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards, was kidnapped along the Kamuya–Buni Yadi road in Borno State.
A source had disclosed, “They were abducted alongside some unidentified passengers travelling in an Hizbah vehicle en route from Potiskum town of Yobe State to Biu. One of the councillors abducted was the immediate past Vice Chairman of Biu local government. We are appealing to the government and our security agencies to intensify efforts in rescuing them and other captives safely.”
However, in a video released over the weekend, a visibly distressed Miringa identified his abductors as “soldiers of Khilafa”.
“My name is Hassan Biu Miringa, For Local government Chairman of Biu Local Government from 2020 to 2022, exactly four years after serving Biu. We were abducted by soldiers of Khilafa in December 2025 about 14 days ago and we are still held under their captivity.
Alhamdulillah, we are still alive. But we needed help to save our lives and how you can rescue us.”
He further disclosed ongoing discussions with the kidnappers and appealed directly to political leaders from the area for intervention, according to Daily Trust.
“We have spoken with them in four different phases and we have reached an agreement. We are calling on our leaders especially the Borno Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Umar Kadafur and Member Representing, Biu, Kwaya and Shani, at the National Assembly, Hon. Betera Aliyu, and our Leader Dr Sule Ali Rimi, our elder Brother Honorable Kimba, Alhaji Musa Dogo Biu, to temper justice with mercy to come to our aid, we are their children and we have been working together.”
Miringa revealed that the total ransom demanded for the two captives is $300,000, with each expected to pay $150,000, and appealed for swift intervention to save their lives.
