Abduction: Zamfara declares dusk-to-dawn curfew after Jangebe schoolgirls reunion turned bloody
The Zamfara State Government on Wednesday declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state after the reunion of the 279 abducted schoolgirls of Government Secondary School with their parents turned bloody.
At least three people were fatally shot during the violent altercation between locals and the military leaving one of the shot victims dead while the remaining two injured, according to Arise News.
Reacting to the incident at Jangebe town on Wednesday, Governor Bello Matawalle-led government described the violence as a “civil disobedience” and as such imposed the curfew “starting from Wednesday, March 3, 2021” to prevent any further breach of peace.
In a statement signed by the State’s Commissioner for Information, Sulaiman Tunau Anka, Matawalle disclosed that sequel to the ‘unfortunate civil disobedience’ which took place at Jangebe town after the return of the released abducted school children, he has approved the imposition of a dusk-to-dawn curfew at Jangebe town.
“This is to prevent any further breach of peace. Similarly, there is strong discovered evidence of market activities in the town that aid and abet bandits activities in the town and neighbouring communities. Consequently, all market activities in the town are hereby suspended until further notice.
“The state government is poised to ensure safety of lives and properties of its citizens at all cost.
“With this announcement, the Zamfara State Police Command is hereby enjoined to ensure total enforcement,” the statement said.
Matawalle on Wednesday had also accused the school’s security guard of working with the bandits to carry out the abduction.
“The children have mentioned that after releasing them, the bandits were telling them to greet the watchman for them. They even mentioned his name that he is the one who gave them the go-ahead to come, that he was involved.
“They have said it in front of the Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State. I assure Nigerians that investigation will be carried out and all people involved will be known,” he said.
Recall that the governor on Sunday said that he had many revelations to make about the abduction of the schoolgirls, adding that Nigerians would be shocked to know the people behind the abduction of the girls.
“Many people will be surprised to hear those people behind the abduction of these innocent children,” he said.
As of the time of filing in this report, the accused school’s security guard and other actors are yet to be named.
