Abducted Ogun clerics paid N2.2m ransom before release – Family
A family member of one of the two abducted Islamic clerics in Ogun State has confirmed that a ransom of N2.2 was paid to secure their release.
The PUNCH reports that the clerics, Hussein AbdulJelil and his friend, Ilyas Muhammed Jamiu, were abducted from their house at Ayetoro in Yewa-North Local Government Area of the state after arriving from a public lecture on Saturday.
The kidnappers were said to have made a demand of N15 million ransom but later agreed to collect N2.2 million as ransom.
Although the police claimed to have arrested the assailants, the family still paid the ransom.
Confirming their release from the kidnappers’ den, the elder brother to one of the victims, Hussein Ibrahim said, “They have been released today after we gave them N2.2 million as ransom.
“They initially insisted on N15 million saying they were two people, but in the end, they agreed to collect N2.2 million from us.”
As of the time of filing this report, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he has no new information regarding the abduction.
