Veteran Nollywood actor, Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, aka Kanayo O. Kanayo, has shared his opinion on the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities strike action in Nigerian Universities.

The star of hit TV series “Professor Johnbull”, in an Instagram post was of the opinion that the Federal Government has a major role to play in funding Nigerian Universities adding that “Why are there no strikes in the institutions in the West? ”

He explained that just as Western Universities are funded by Non-Governmental Organisations, ASUU should also seek other sources of funding.

He further said that the Federal Government of Nigeria should prioritise the education sector because a poorly managed education sector will only produce half baked products.

Kanoyo also advised the Government to nip the problem in the bud and not play politics with ASUU.

The National President of the union, Dr. Biodun Ogunyemi, announced on August 12, 2017, during a meeting of the National Executive Council of ASUU in Abuja, that during the strike, there shall be no teaching, no examination and no attendance of statutory meetings of any kind in any of the union’s branches across the country.
