Tinubu meets NURTW members, warns against election violence
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has warned members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) against violence in the coming governorship election .
Tinubu gave the warning during a meeting he held with leaders of the Lagos chapter of the union at his home in Bourdillon, Ikoyi.
It would be recalled that violence was recorded in some parts of Lagos during the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Few days after the election, there was also tension in certain areas of the state over alleged threat to Igbos over election matters.
Notable among those in attendance were the state Chairman of the union, Tajudeen Agbede; and Treasurer, Musiliu Akinsanya (aka MC Oluomo).
An aide of the former Governor who was privy to details of the meeting revealed what transpired:
“It was a very brief meeting. During the meeting, he didn’t mince words in telling them that he will not condone attacks on non-indigenes, especially Igbo residents in the state.
“He said they are free to vote for any political party or candidates of their choice without threats of harassment and intimidation from anyone in the state.
“He also warned the union leaders to ensure that none of their members in their domain engaged in incidents of ballot snatching or violence in any form. He asked them not to interfere in anyway with the voting process, warning that anyone caught causing mayhem will have himself to blame.
“Lastly, he solicited for votes for his candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whom he believes can continue with the masterplan of Lagos, the foundation which he laid when he governed the state from 1999 to 2007”.
