Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch put for sale again, but value has dropped by $69m
The King of Pop Michael Jackson’s former home has been put for sale again, but unlike in 2015 when the asking price was fixed $100m, the asking price has dropped by a whopping $69m to $31m.
The sprawling 2,700-acre Neverland Ranch. The hallmark Michael Jackson residence — now called the Sycamore Valley Ranch – is located in Santa Barbara County, California.
The listing for the Ranch was taken down in 2017. But, the property’s real estate agents Suzanne Perkins and Kyle Forsyth told CBS that the ranch has been put back up at a reduced cost because of the region’s recent natural disasters and years of droughts.
The ranch’s listing also comes coincidentally around the same time HBO’s Michael Jackson documentary Leaving Neverland is due to air (March 3 and 4). The controversial film centers around interviews with two men who claim Jackson sexually abused them as kids.
The Sycamore Valley Ranch website has also listed the property at $31 million. It is owned in a joint venture between Colony Capital and Michael Jackson’s estate.
Forsyth said the compound has been well maintained and “with the drought ending and the Santa Ynez Valley in full bloom,” now was the best time to sell.
Jackson reportedly paid $19.5m for the property in the 1980s but a real estate investment firm bought it in 2008 for $22.5m after the singer defaulted on a loan.
The King of Pop died the following year.
News of the sale comes as HBO is set to air on Sunday a damning four-hour documentary titled “Leaving Neverland,” which includes the testimonies of two men who claim Jackson sexually abused them as children all over the ranch, including the attic, the master bedroom and the pool.
Jackson faced multiple allegations of child sex abuse during his lifetime.
His ranch was raided in 2003 as part of a child molestation case against him and police at the time seized a large collection of pornography and images of nude children.
Jackson was acquitted in the case in 2005.
