Elections: thuggery, hooliganism will not be tolerated in Lagos, CP says
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, has said the command would not tolerate any act of thuggery or hooliganism at any polling unit across the state.
Muazu said this during his visit to some polling units in the state.
He, however, added that the command has not received any complaint from the polling units in the state, noting that voters conducted themselves in an orderly manner.
He said:
“We have visited some areas where electoral materials are suppose to move to various polling unit, everything is going on well, the INEC staff are on ground distributing the materials and the few polling units we have visited are in order and people are casting their vote.
“There is no adverse report from anywhere so far, we have gotten report in most part of Lagos and voting has started in some polling unit.
“Voters after casting their vote are expected to go home and those who wish to stay back to see their vote count are free to do so at a safe distance, we will not tolerate any act of thuggery or hooligalism at any polling unit.”
The CP added that nine suspected cultists were arrested in the Shomolu/Bariga area of the state around 8am on Saturday.
He noted that they were arrested for brandishing charm, smoking and molesting electorates with motorcycles.
Muazu added that the suspects have been transferred to Zone 2 for further investigation and would soon be charged to court.
