Eva Alordiah: Body-shaming might lead to depression and mental issues if not properly handled
Nigerian entertainer, make-up artist and fashion designer, Eva Alordiah, has said that body-shaming might lead to depression and mental issues if not properly handled.
Alordiah made the statement recently during the Social Media Week (SMW) in Lagos State.
The 30-year-old singer was speaking on ‘improving style and achieving body-image positivity.
She opined that self-awareness and trusting in one’s self are the major therapies in improving self-image and confidence.
She further said cyber-bullying has become a common adding that an average person would have being a victim of body shaming at some point.
“People need to be aware of whom they are, self-awareness is possibly the only thing that we need as individuals to forge ahead,” she said.
“When you become aware of whom you are as an individual, it means that you can forget about everybody else and their opinions about you and trust your own inner guardian.
“We live our lives looking for some forces outside to save us; thinking that a messiah will come.
“We have forgotten that our saviour is inside of us; we need to connect to that part of ourselves and know when and how external factors are influencing us.”
Alordiah further advised people to always be sure of every action consciously taken towards their self-image.
“We need to know when the thoughts we are nursing are not ours. The only way you believe what people are telling you will be when you are not aware of yourself,” she added.
