The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge and a motorcycle during an operation in Ibadan. This incident forms part of the recent Oyo armed robbery arrests reported in the state.
According to The PUNCH, the suspects were arrested on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following a robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout in the Oluyole area of the state.
The command disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, October 11. It explained that officers responded to a distress call about armed men attacking residents and dispossessing them of their belongings. These events further highlight the significance of the Oyo armed robbery arrests.
The suspects were identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.
Police explained that the Divisional Police Officer of Oluyole Division received information about the robbery at approximately 9:15 p.m. The officer immediately deployed a patrol team to the scene.
Upon arrival, the officers confronted the suspected robbers and arrested all three individuals.
Police recover firearm, motorcycle in Ibadan
During the operation, officers recovered a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge.
The command confirmed that the recovered items had been secured as exhibits to support further investigations involving the Oyo armed robbery arrests.
Police further alleged that the suspects confessed during preliminary questioning to robbing a tricycle driver and two passengers.
The suspects also reportedly admitted to injuring other individuals during their alleged criminal activities.
Following their arrest, the command transferred the case to the Violence Crime Response Unit in Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation. As a result, the Oyo armed robbery arrests case will now be handled by the specialised unit.
The police said investigators would conduct a “discreet and thorough investigation” into the incident.
Oyo police reaffirm commitment to public safety
The state Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s determination to combat criminal activities and protect residents.
He emphasised the importance of prompt responses to distress calls, intelligence gathering and sustained operations against suspected criminals.
The commissioner also encouraged residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities.
“Timely and credible information from residents remains essential to strengthening security and maintaining public safety across Oyo State,” the command stated.
Police assured residents that efforts to tackle robbery and other criminal activities would continue across the state.
The three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
