The Nigeria Football Federation has challenged the Super Falcons to start their quest for a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles with a win by beating Comoros in Friday’s qualifier.

Acting NFF General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, gave the charge during a visit to the team’s camp in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Thursday, where he checked their preparations and spoke with the players and coaching staff.

Ikpeme praised the players and technical crew for their commitment but stressed the need to turn their preparations into a strong performance when the match kicks off.

He urged the Falcons to make the most of their home advantage and secure a positive result that would put them in a stronger position ahead of the return leg.

The first leg of the second-round qualifier is scheduled for 6pm on Friday at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State.

Although Comoros are the designated home team, the Confederation of African Football moved the fixture to Nigeria because the island nation does not have a stadium approved for international matches. Both legs will therefore be played in Ikenne, with the return leg fixed for October 13.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round as one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition, while Comoros advanced after defeating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.

The Super Falcons must progress through four two-legged knockout rounds to claim one of Africa’s two places at the Los Angeles 2028 women’s football tournament. If they overcome Comoros, they will face either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco in the third round in February and March 2027.
