Olori Ivie Atuwatse III, wife of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has dismissed the possibility of her husband embracing polygamy. She said she is enough for him.
The queen consort spoke during an interview with BBC News Pidgin about her marriage. She discussed the responsibilities that come with being married to a monarch. Furthermore, she explained how she handles public attention around her husband.
Ivie said one of the things she enjoys most is watching people recognise and celebrate her husband.
“The thing wey I like about being married to His Majesty is that, all the fame or the popularity wey him get, na say I get to see the world celebrate his genius, his swag also, cos me too I dey celebrate am,” she said.
Olori speaks on challenges of royal marriage
Ivie admitted that her husband’s responsibilities sometimes make it difficult for them to spend as much time together as she would like.
“Sometimes e dey busy and it can be hard to want to share my husband with all the many different duties that he has,” she said.
She added that they continue to learn how to balance their marriage with the demands of the throne.
The interviewer then asked whether she would accept another wife if the monarch ever reconsidered his position on polygamy.
Ivie shuts down polygamy possibility
The queen dismissed the possibility and expressed confidence that her husband would not change his mind.
“Firstly, His Majesty no go fit change him mind about polygamy. Make we just settle that one for there,” she said.
She then joked about being more than enough for the monarch.
“Me alone, one me, I be like three women, so I dey alright for am,” Ivie added.
The couple have remained prominent figures in the Warri kingdom. Ivie frequently participates in social, cultural and development initiatives alongside the monarch.
