A fresh leadership bloc has emerged within the Adamawa State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, with Dr. Markus Peter Danbaki becoming the third person to claim the position of state chairman.
Danbaki was sworn in as chairman by one of the party’s factions on Sunday, September 13, adding another layer to the leadership dispute in Adamawa, the home state of the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. His emergence means three individuals are now laying claim to the chairmanship of the party in the state.
Prior to Danbaki’s inauguration, Sadiq Dasin and Alhaji Sai’du Naira had separately emerged as chairmen of two opposing factions of the party.
The latest development has intensified the internal crisis confronting the ADC in Adamawa, where the party is also dealing with a dispute over its governorship ticket for the 2027 election, with two contenders previously laying claim to the nomination.
Hamman Tukur Modibbo, who finished second in the party’s governorship primary conducted in May, is currently recognised on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal as the ADC’s candidate for the election.
Omar Suleiman, who emerged winner of the primary, has nevertheless disputed Modibbo’s candidacy and has taken the matter to court, where he is seeking legal redress.
Danbaki’s inauguration as chairman took place at a ceremony held late on Sunday as the faction formally installed him in the position.
The oath of office was administered to Danbaki by Ibrahim Ahmad, the faction’s legal adviser, in the presence of party members aligned with the group.
His emergence is likely to add another dimension to the already complicated leadership dispute within the ADC in Adamawa State.
