Authorities in Newark, United States are investigating a home invasion and robbery involving a group of men who allegedly posed as “FBI agents” before forcing their way into an apartment last week.
The Newark Department of Public Safety said the incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 at an apartment building on Mott Street, near Raymond Boulevard.
According to police, three men entered the building and went to a third-floor apartment, where they knocked on the door. When the female resident responded, the men allegedly identified themselves as federal agents and ordered her to let them inside.
Once the woman opened the door, the suspects reportedly forced their way into the apartment and shoved her onto a couch. Police said one suspect restrained the victim while the other two searched the apartment and took $7,500 from a safe located in the bedroom. They also allegedly stole two credit cards from her purse.
After the robbery, the three men exited the building and joined a fourth suspect who was waiting outside in a black Toyota Camry Solara bearing out-of-state license plates. Authorities said the vehicle then sped away eastbound on Fleming Avenue.
Newark police have released surveillance images showing the suspects, the vehicle and a shuttle bus that investigators believe could be linked to the home invasion.
