Davido celebrates as Adeleke secures Osun re-election

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke. His celebration followed his uncle’s victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

According to Premium Times, the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke, candidate of the Accord Party, winner on Sunday morning. This announcement came after the conclusion of collation from all 30 local government areas of the state.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.

The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes. The governor carried 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.

Davido celebrates Adeleke’s Osun victory

Following the declaration, Davido shared his excitement on social media. He posted a jubilant video as celebrations broke out among supporters of the governor.

“We won! We won! We won!” the singer could be heard saying in the video.

Davido had been one of Adeleke’s most prominent supporters throughout the election period. He joined campaign activities and repeatedly used his social media platforms to mobilise support for the governor.

As results were being collated on Saturday, the singer also urged supporters to remain vigilant. He called on INEC to ensure that the outcome reflected the votes cast by residents.

Adeleke’s victory secures him another term as Osun governor. This follows a keenly contested election dominated by the Accord Party and APC.
