Police have opened an investigation into the Niger building death. Residents discovered an unidentified man inside an uncompleted structure in the Albishiri area.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, residents found the man dead on Thursday morning in Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State. However, his identity and the circumstances surrounding his death remain unknown.

Community leader Dangana Abubakar said residents raised the alarm after discovering the body inside the building.

Abubakar appealed for calm and urged members of the community to allow the relevant authorities to investigate the incident.

He also expressed concern. This was the second time residents had found a dead person inside an uncompleted building in the area.

Police probe Niger building death

Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that officers received information about the Niger building death at about 7am on Thursday.

Abiodun said preliminary observations at the scene suggested that the incident could be a suicide. However, he stressed that the police had not completed their investigation.

The command has therefore not announced a final conclusion on what led to the man’s death.

The police spokesperson added that officials had contacted the Chanchaga Local Government Social Welfare Department to take the necessary action.

“Meanwhile, the Chanchaga Local Government Social Welfare Department has been contacted for necessary action, while further investigation is ongoing,” Abiodun said.

Residents await identification

Authorities had yet to identify the deceased. Moreover, they could not establish whether he lived within the Albishiri community at the time of the report.

Police investigators are expected to gather information that could help identify him and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Abubakar urged residents with useful information to cooperate with the authorities while avoiding speculation that could interfere with the investigation.

The discovery has raised concern among residents. This is particularly because another body had reportedly been found in an uncompleted building in the community before Thursday’s incident.

The police said their investigation would continue. Officers will continue until they establish the man’s identity and the events that led to his death.
