Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has confirmed that Deputy Governor Murtala Garo will remain his running mate in the 2027 governorship election.

According to The Punch, Yusuf announced the decision during a strategic meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The governor said he retained Garo because of his loyalty, commitment and contributions to the development of Kano State since the administration took office.

Yusuf praises deputy’s performance

Yusuf described Garo as a dependable partner who has shown competence, dedication and responsibility while serving as deputy governor.

“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far. I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him,” the governor said.

He added that Garo had played a key role in advancing the administration’s development agenda and helping the government deliver on its promises to the people.

“His contributions have been remarkable, and his commitment to the progress of Kano State has remained unquestionable. Together, we will continue to work towards achieving the goals we set for our people,” Yusuf added.

Governor calls for party unity

The governor also urged party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

He said the administration would require collective support to consolidate its achievements and sustain ongoing development projects across the state.

“We must remain focused, united and committed as we continue to build on the progress recorded by this administration and prepare for the challenges ahead,” he said.

The announcement formally confirms that the Yusuf-Garo ticket will remain intact as the governor prepares to seek another term in office during the 2027 governorship election.
