Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has sharply criticized Brazil’s performance after their unexpected 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The match at MetLife Stadium saw Erling Haaland deliver a decisive performance for Norway national football team. The Manchester City F.C. striker broke the deadlock in the 80th minute with a well-taken header before striking again 10 minutes later, sealing a famous victory over the five-time world champions.

Brazil national football team managed a late response through a stoppage-time penalty converted by Neymar, but the effort only reduced the deficit as Brazil crashed out of the tournament at the Round of 16 stage—marking their earliest World Cup elimination since 1990.

The result also made history for Norway, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup for the first time ever. They will now face either Mexico or England in the last eight, with the clash scheduled to take place in Miami on July 11.

Reacting to the outcome on social media platform X, Oliseh expressed disappointment at Brazil’s current level, suggesting the team has lost the identity that once defined them as global football powerhouses. He wrote:

“Erling Haaland’s second goal tells you everything you need to know. Look at the tactical shape, look at the body language—the Brazil we used to know, is completely gone.

“This Brazil side is sadly and completely playing “ordinary”. Bravo Norway. This world cup continues to amaze!”
