Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed a suspected terrorist, rescued three kidnapped victims and destroyed a bandits’ camp during ongoing military operations in Zamfara State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the operation was carried out on June 12 across communities in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of efforts to combat banditry and other criminal activities in the North West.

An operational report made available on Saturday stated that troops conducting a fighting patrol through Birnin Saba, Yanbuki and Sabon Garin Daudawa encountered terrorists operating in the Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA.

The troops engaged the suspects in a gun battle, killing one terrorist, while others fled the area.

Security operatives recovered weapons and other items from the scene, including rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser and an inner vest.

The report added that the troops sustained pressure on the fleeing terrorists and advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, where the criminals abandoned their camp and escaped upon sighting the military personnel.

The camp was subsequently cleared and destroyed to prevent it from being used for future criminal activities.

During the operation, soldiers also rescued three kidnapped victims and evacuated them to safety.

The military reiterated its commitment to maintaining offensive operations across Zamfara and other parts of the North West until terrorist and bandit groups are dismantled and peace is restored to affected communities.
