Hollywood is mourning the death of veteran actor Anthony Guidera, who passed away on June 6 following a sudden medical crisis that left doctors unable to identify its cause.

The actor, widely recognised for his appearance in The Godfather Part III, died weeks after suffering a devastating health emergency at his Southern California residence.

Reports indicate that Guidera collapsed at his home on May 11 after experiencing an unexpected cardiac arrest. Emergency personnel responded swiftly and transported him to a nearby hospital, where medical teams worked extensively in an effort to stabilise his condition.

Despite those efforts, Guidera’s condition failed to improve, turning what initially appeared to be a recovery battle into a difficult ordeal for his family. After spending three weeks on life support, his loved ones faced a heartbreaking decision regarding his care.

His wife, Valarie Guidera, later revealed that physicians were unable to determine what triggered the actor’s sudden collapse. With no clear diagnosis and limited prospects for recovery, the family chose to bring him home, where he was removed from life support and allowed to pass away peacefully in the company of those closest to him.

Paying tribute to her husband, Valarie described him as a cherished husband, devoted father and a source of strength to those around him. In a statement announcing his death, she said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Anthony. We are devastated and trying to breathe through the impossible.”

Guidera first gained widespread recognition in 1990 through his role as a bodyguard named Anthony in The Godfather Part III. The performance helped establish his presence in Hollywood and opened the door to a series of notable acting opportunities throughout the decade.

His career continued to flourish with appearances in several major films, including the 1995 science-fiction thriller Species. The project brought him additional attention and contributed to an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss shared with co-star Natasha Henstridge.

Over the years, Guidera also featured in a number of high-profile productions, including The Rock, The Postman and Armageddon, working alongside some of the industry’s most celebrated actors.

Beyond the silver screen, he built a successful television career with appearances in popular series such as Baywatch, Renegade, Angel and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. His ability to move seamlessly between action, science fiction and drama made him a familiar face to audiences across multiple genres.

Prior to his passing, Valarie publicly honoured her husband on Father’s Day, describing him as much more than a father to their son, Nick. She portrayed him as a dream-builder, a loving presence and an inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
