Nigerian cleric Isa El-Buba has disclosed the reasons behind his decision to withdraw support from Peter Obi and instead back Prince Adewole Adebayo ahead of the 2027 general elections.
El-Buba, who spoke in a a statement made available on Wednesday, said his new political preference was informed by his belief that the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party offers a stronger and more effective vision for Nigeria compared to Peter Obi, according to Daily Post.
The cleric also warned against the possibility of Nigeria evolving into a one-party state, stressing the importance of political diversity for national stability and democratic balance.
He further expressed concern over the country’s socio-economic challenges, noting that despite Nigeria’s vast natural wealth and human capital, many citizens continue to face hardship driven by insecurity, unemployment, poverty, and systemic injustice.
According to him, repeated leadership failures over time have limited opportunities for young Nigerians, particularly in the areas of education, employment, and economic advancement.
“Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources, intelligent people, and great potential, yet millions still suffer from insecurity, unemployment, poverty, and injustice,” he stated.
“Now is the time that we need to join forces together to rewrite history.” “Nigeria cannot continue to go through pain, frustration, and clueless leadership,” he said.
He further emphasised the need to safeguard Nigeria’s democratic structure, warning that concentration of political power could be dangerous for the country’s future.
“Nigeria cannot go into a one-party state. Every system survives by justice and equity. “Oppression is never the pathway to stability, and peace cannot thrive in the midst of injustice,” he declared.
