Senators Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye and Chief Ebuka Onunkwo have emerged as the senatorial candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 general elections in Anambra State.

According to The Punch, Umeh secured the party’s ticket for Anambra Central Senatorial District, while Nwoye and Onunkwo emerged as candidates for Anambra North and Anambra South Senatorial Districts respectively.

The trio emerged during the party’s primary elections for State and National Assembly positions held across the state on Friday.

The exercise, conducted under the Option A4 voting system, began with the accreditation of registered party members before voting commenced later in the day.

The primaries also produced 11 candidates for the House of Representatives and 30 candidates for the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Speaking after the exercise, the Chairman of the NDC in Anambra State, Ikem Uzoezie, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primaries, describing the process as peaceful, transparent, and credible.

“We congratulate all aspirants that emerged as candidates and those that could not make it. This was a great show of sportsmanship among the aspirants,” Uzoezie said.

Speaking on behalf of the successful candidates, Onunkwo commended party members for their peaceful conduct throughout the exercise and expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections.

“We are happy with the peaceful process, and we salute our party members for conducting themselves peacefully,” he said.

“With the set of candidates in our party for the coming elections, our state is set to experience populist representation that would take our state to a higher level.”

He added that Anambra State is blessed with men and women of integrity who are committed to advancing development and improving governance across the state.
