A 27-year-old Kentucky woman has been charged with child abuse after allegedly tattooing her 22-month-old son on the arm.
The suspect, identified as Brook McDaniel, was taken into custody on May 4 after Kentucky State Police received a complaint concerning possible child abuse at a residence in Monticello, near the Tennessee border.
According to local media reports citing police records, officers arrived at the home and found the toddler with what authorities described as a black dot tattoo on his right forearm, accompanied by redness around the affected area.
McDaniel allegedly told investigators that the incident occurred while she was tattooing her own leg and the child unexpectedly placed his arm in front of the tattoo machine.
“She claimed she had been tattooing herself when the child approached and got in the way of the tattoo gun,” details contained in the arrest report reportedly stated.
However, witnesses at the residence reportedly gave a different account, alleging that McDaniel had said the toddler “wanted the tattoo” and referred to the marking as a “party dot.”
Authorities also raised concerns about the condition of the home. According to reports, officers described the environment as “deplorable,” prompting contact with child welfare officials for further intervention.
McDaniel has been charged with fourth-degree assault related to child abuse. She was booked into the Adair County Detention Center and is reportedly being held on a $5,000 cash bond pending further legal proceedings. The case remains under investigation by local authorities and child welfare agencies.
