The African Democratic Congress has issued a stern warning to dissenting factions within its ranks, stating that any congress or convention conducted without proper approval ahead of the 2027 elections will be considered null and void.

The directive underscores the party’s effort to maintain control over its internal processes amid growing tensions.

In a notice released yesterday, Chairman of State Chairmen, Kingsley Ogga, announced that dates have already been set for the party’s non-elective congresses and a special convention.

He emphasized that only activities sanctioned by the National Executive Committee would be recognised as legitimate.

The schedule outlined in the statement indicates that ward and local government area congresses are to take place on May 7, 2026, followed by state congresses on May 8.

The party’s special convention, alongside its presidential primary, has been fixed for May 24.

Referencing provisions in the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act, and a Federal High Court judgment delivered in Abuja, the NEC reaffirmed its position as the sole authority responsible for organising party activities across the country.

The notice also warned party members and aspirants to avoid engaging with caretaker committees, interim National Working Committees (NWC), or any splinter factions operating outside the recognised structure.

“Any parallel congress, convention, primary, delegate process or nomination organised by unauthorised groups will be null, void and legally ineffective,” the notice said.

It further stressed that only outcomes arising from NEC-approved processes would be accepted for the 2027 general elections, highlighting an intensifying internal struggle for control within the party.
