For the numerous lives and property worth billions of naira lost to insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and violent robbery across Nigeria, the Standing Committee of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has endorsed the Federal Government’s partnership with the Government of the United States of America to deploy special squads to the country to identify and dismantle terrorist networks.
The Standing Committee of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) convened over the weekend at St Stephens Anglican Church, Osumenyi in Nnewi South, within the Amichi Diocese.
The gathering, themed “Serve the Lord: Imperative for the Family Under God,” was led by His Grace, Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba (Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria).
In a communiqué issued at the close of the meeting, the committee expressed deep concern over the worsening security challenges nationwide, lamenting that no part of the country has been immune to banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, herder-farmer clashes, ethnic and religious conflicts, and other violent crimes.
The communiqué was jointly signed by Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba (Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria), Blessing Chinyere Enyindah (Dean, Church of Nigeria), and Festus Chukwunyere Opara (General Secretary, Church of Nigeria).
According to the communiqué, the committee observed that the government’s constitutional obligation to guarantee the security and welfare of citizens through the protection of lives and property has yet to produce the expected outcomes.
