Police vow to hunt killers of Ondo monarch

The Ondo State Police Command has pledged to track down and prosecute those responsible for the killing of the traditional ruler of Agamo village in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Kehinde Falodun.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, gave the assurance during a visit to the community alongside heads of other security agencies to assess the situation on ground.

He stated that the police, in collaboration with other security outfits, had commenced investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending those behind the attack, which he described as heinous.

The delegation to the troubled community included officers from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Department of State Services.

Oba Falodun was reportedly abducted and killed by gunmen on Wednesday.

Earlier, the police had disclosed that six armed men invaded the monarch’s residence and forcibly took him away.

He was later discovered a few metres from his residence with gunshot wounds and was confirmed dead at the scene.

Residents remain in shock and mourning, gathering outside the monarch’s residence where the attack occurred.

A community member, identified as Chief Odeyemi, recounted that about 10 armed men stormed the village around 7:30 pm, firing sporadically.

He said the assailants forced their way into the monarch’s home and opened fire on him.

He also said they dragged the ruler outside and struck his head and stomach with their guns, killing him instantly.

According to Odeyemi, the attackers fled the village immediately after carrying out the killing.
