World champion sprinters Sha’Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman have both pleaded not guilty following their arrests in Florida last week, according to a TMZ report.
Court documents filed by their shared attorney, Alisia Adamson, confirm the pleas. The incident began when police recorded Richardson allegedly driving a gray Aston Martin at 104 mph in Winter Green, Florida.
In obtained bodycam footage, the 25-year-old Olympic gold medalist told the officer her high speed was due to an underinflated tire and that her phone had accidentally changed the car’s settings. “I’m a law-abiding citizen,” she stated during the traffic stop but was arrested on one count of dangerous excessive speeding.
Coleman, 29, arrived at the scene after Richardson was pulled over. According to the arrest affidavit, he approached her vehicle despite an officer’s instruction to return to his car. Police say he later refused to provide identification, leading to his arrest for resisting an officer without violence.
A search of Coleman’s Jeep reportedly revealed a “glass smoking device” in the center console with a small amount of plant material, resulting in an additional charge for drug paraphernalia possession.
Both athletes posted bond following the January 29 incident.
This is not the first legal issue involving the couple. Last year, Richardson was arrested for fourth-degree domestic assault after a physical altercation with Coleman at an airport, which was captured on surveillance video.
Their attorney has not provided further comment on the new charges.
