A swift response by firefighters prevented a major disaster in Gombe State on Tuesday after a fire outbreak gutted two residential buildings in Tumfure Quarters.

The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, confirmed that a two-bedroom flat and a three-bedroom detached building were affected by the blaze.

In a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASF Bashir Muazu, authorities confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident.

“The fire was promptly brought under control due to the swift response and professionalism of firefighters at the scene,” Muazu said. He added, “Our firefighters responded swiftly to the distress call and were able to confine the fire to the affected buildings. Their timely intervention prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby structures.”

Preliminary assessments show the effective response led to significant savings. Muazu disclosed that property valued at approximately **₦25 million** was successfully protected from the flames. The estimated loss from the damaged buildings is about **₦5 million**.

The fire service official also acknowledged the collaborative effort that made the operation successful. “We appreciate the collaboration of the Gombe State Fire Service and security personnel from the Tumfure Divisional Police Station, whose support ensured a safe and coordinated operation,” Muazu stated.

The Service used the opportunity to remind the public of essential fire safety practices. “We advise members of the public to regularly inspect and maintain their electrical installations, avoid practices that could trigger fire outbreaks, and keep basic firefighting equipment within reach. Prevention remains the most effective way to reduce fire incidents,” Muazu advised.

This incident follows another market fire on Monday, which damaged sections of the popular Singa Market in Kano.
