The National Examinations Council has released the results for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination External, with over 80 percent of candidates achieving five credits and above.
Announcing the results on Tuesday in Minna, NECO Registrar Prof. Dantani Wushishi stated, “It is my pleasure to declare the 2025 SSCE External Results released. Candidates can access their results on the NECO official website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration number.”
A total of 96,979 candidates registered for the exam, comprising 51,823 males (53.43%) and 45,156 females (46.56%). Of these, 95,160 actually sat for the examination across sixteen subjects.
In English Language, 78.32% of the 93,425 candidates who sat obtained a credit or above. Mathematics saw a stronger performance, with 91.35% of the 93,330 candidates scoring credit and above.
Overall, 71.63% of candidates (68,166) obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics. When English and Mathematics are not compulsory, the figure rises to 86.26% (82,082 candidates).
On examination malpractice, Prof. Wushishi reported a significant increase, with 9,016 candidates booked for misconduct—a 31.7% rise from the 6,160 cases in 2024. Five supervisors from the FCT, Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo were recommended for blacklisting for aiding malpractice. Four centres—two in Niger and one each in Yobe and Kano—were recommended for de-recognition for involvement in whole-centre malpractice.
The SSCE External exam is designed for private candidates seeking certification outside the conventional school system.
