The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue worshippers recently abducted by suspected terrorists in Kaduna State.
He condemned the attack on churches and expressed concern over the recurring incidents of mass kidnappings across parts of the country.
Hon. Abbas described the attack as unfortunate and unacceptable, lamenting the increasing targeting of soft locations such as schools and places of worship in recent times.
“We cannot continue to live in fear of these terrorists,” he said.
He stressed the importance of collective action in ensuring Nigeria becomes a safe environment for citizens, property and businesses, while reaffirming his confidence in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reverse the disturbing security situation.
“We must work together to ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” he stressed.
The Speaker also commended the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, for providing effective leadership at the sub-national level, noting that the state has enjoyed relative peace since the governor assumed office in May 2023. He pointed to the governor’s visit to the Kurmin Wali community as evidence of his commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
“The Governor’s visit is a demonstration of his concern for the safety and well-being of the people,” Hon. Abbas said, while offering prayers for the safe return of the abducted worshippers to their families and community.
He further charged security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the abducted worshippers and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
