Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has been conferred with a new chieftaincy title in Lagos.

Tinubu was installed as the Okanlomo of Eyo Oba Alakete Pupa, Laba Ekun, during a ceremony held in Lagos, where his wife also received a complementary title.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, congratulated the couple, describing the honour as a recognition of service and commitment to Lagos culture.

“I warmly congratulate Barrister Oluwaseyi Tinubu on his installation as the Okanlomo of Eyo Oba Alakete Pupa, Laba Ekun.

“This honour reflects service, character, and commitment to our culture and people,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor wished Tinubu wisdom and strength as he takes on the responsibilities attached to the title.

The Lagos installation came barely five days after Seyi Tinubu and his wife, Layal, received chieftaincy titles in Oyo State.

On December 21, 2025, the couple were installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Yeye Okanlomo of Yorubaland respectively by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, at a ceremony held at the monarch’s palace in Oyo town.

The event was attended by top political and traditional figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, ministers, governors, traditional rulers and senior government officials.

The title Okanlomo of Yorubaland is commonly interpreted as “the beloved child,” symbolising unity, cultural values and service to the Yoruba people.

While conferring the title, the Alaafin described Seyi Tinubu as a young leader committed to youth empowerment, social development and the promotion of Yoruba culture.

In his remarks, Tinubu expressed appreciation for the honour and pledged continued service.

“I accept this title with humility and a deep sense of responsibility to serve our people and promote peace and progress across Yorubaland,” he said.
