The Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State has approved monthly allowances for former council chairmen, their deputies, councillors and other past political appointees.

The council chairman, Maji Wakili Marma, announced the decision on Monday during a meeting held at the local government headquarters.

According to Marma, the move is aimed at strengthening engagement with former leaders and recognising their past contributions to the development of the area.

Under the new arrangement, former council chairmen will receive ₦50,000 every month, while ex-deputy chairmen will be paid ₦40,000. Former secretaries are to get ₦30,000 monthly, and past councillors will receive ₦25,000.

Marma said the payments would be made regularly to ensure consistency and sustainability of the programme.

“The council has taken this step to foster better relations with our former leaders and to tap into their wealth of experience,” he said.

He praised the former officials for their continued support and cooperation, noting that their experience remains valuable to the progress of the local government.

The chairman disclosed that about 100 former political office holders are expected to benefit from the initiative, which he described as a gesture of appreciation for their service and dedication.

Marma added that the scheme is also designed to promote unity and progress within the community, urging beneficiaries to continue offering guidance and support to the present administration.

“This initiative is meant to strengthen local governance and support community development,” he said.

He further revealed that payment of the allowances would begin this month, adding that beneficiaries would be encouraged to share feedback and suggestions on how to improve the programme.

The details of the initiative were unveiled during a special meeting attended by former council leaders and serving officials at the Kirikasamma Local Government headquarters.
