The Lagos State Government has arrested three people for illegally dumping refuse along the Ikotun–Igando Road median as part of efforts to clean up waste blackspots across the state.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement shared on his X handle on Tuesday.

According to Wahab, the arrests were made during an early morning operation carried out on Monday by officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team.

“As a result of these operations, three individuals were apprehended for disposing of refuse illegally at the road median along Ikotun Igando Road,” he said.

He added that the suspects have been handed over to the LAWMA legal team at the Oshodi Mobile Court for further legal action.

The arrested persons were identified as Muosolu Ogochukwu, 35, a female; Adedigba Kazeem, 35, a male; and Isaac Monday, 24, also a male.

Wahab said the operation was part of ongoing efforts by the state government to tackle indiscriminate waste disposal and eliminate environmental blackspots along major roads.

He warned residents to stop dumping refuse in unauthorised places, stressing that the government would continue to enforce environmental laws across Lagos.

The commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to keeping the state clean and safe for residents, noting that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

The arrest comes days after similar enforcement actions in December. The Lagos State Government recently launched a manhunt for suspected hoodlums who attacked four officials of the State Environmental Sanitation Corps during an operation at a restaurant in Victoria Island.

The government said the restaurant supervisor was arrested, while the facility was sealed after officials allegedly discovered the discharge of untreated wastewater, fats and oils into the environment.
