Gunmen, believed to be bandits, on Saturday night abducted a bride, her bridesmaids, and several well-wishers in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to reports, the assailants stormed the community around midnight, firing sporadically before taking the victims away. Residents said that women who had gathered to support the bride were among those kidnapped.

Confirming the incident, Sokoto APC chairman, Isah Sadeeq Achida, said villagers had been abducted.

He added that he could not verify if the bride was among them or disclose the exact number of people taken.

Attempts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, Ahmed Rufai, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, as he did not answer calls or respond to text messages.

The incident reportedly happened just hours after a ransom of N4 million and a motorcycle was allegedly paid to secure the release of earlier kidnapping victims in Rabah town, highlighting growing concerns about insecurity in the state.

Chacho, the hometown of Sokoto State Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Shehu Alhaji Chacho, has now become the latest community to experience a series of kidnappings affecting the region.
