Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State, marking a significant shift in opposition political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The registration was completed on Monday, days after Atiku informed ADC supporters and stakeholders in the state of his intention to join the party.

Abdul Rasheeth, an aide to the former vice president, confirmed the development in a statement made available to PUNCH Online.

Videos and photographs from the event captured Atiku’s convoy entering the town to a warm welcome from enthusiastic supporters, who drummed, sang, and displayed placards bearing his portrait.

Atiku acknowledged the cheering crowd from his vehicle and received his ADC membership card moments later.

In a brief post on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the registration, he wrote, “It’s official. -AA.”

The move cements Atiku’s affiliation with the coalition party he had endorsed in July as a unifying platform for opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal, to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Until now, Atiku and other key opposition leaders had held off on formal registration with the ADC.

His entry into the party is expected to boost the ADC’s visibility and strengthen opposition coordination ahead of the next electoral cycle.
