Former Head of State, retired Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, has appealed to Nigerians to actively assist security agencies by providing information that could help apprehend those involved in kidnapping and other criminal activities.
Speaking in a telephone interview on Saturday, Mr Abubakar stressed that cooperation from citizens was crucial for security personnel to effectively maintain law and order.
He encouraged residents to report individuals of questionable character to the nearest security formation to enable prompt action.
The call comes at a time of escalating insecurity across the country, marked by widespread abductions and attacks on schools and communities.
Mr Abubakar noted that the “war front” had spread across all layers of society, affecting people in diverse regions.
He underscored the importance of collective effort in addressing the situation, highlighting the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies, government and the public.
“We must all work together to end abductions in our schools and on our highways, and to restore peace, progress and political stability,” he said.
Mr Abubakar further urged religious leaders from both major faiths in Nigeria to intensify prayers for divine intervention in addressing the nation’s socio-economic and political challenges.
