Police arrest 120 crime suspects, recover weapons in Katsina

Police authorities in Katsina State have apprehended 120 individuals suspected of involvement in various criminal activities, including armed robbery, murder, sexual assault, and narcotics offenses.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, revealed this information during a media briefing held at the command headquarters in Katsina on Tuesday.

He explained that the detentions resulted from continuous security operations aimed at reducing criminal conduct and enhancing safety throughout the state.

Sadiq provided a breakdown of the arrests, stating that the detained suspects comprise 18 individuals linked to armed robbery, 28 connected to culpable homicide, 5 for attempted homicide, 20 for rape and unnatural offenses, and 28 for illegal drug possession.

The police spokesperson noted that authorities have prosecuted 97 cases in court, while 22 cases remain under active investigation. During these operations, law enforcement successfully freed numerous victims of abduction and human trafficking.

“Within the period under review, 47 kidnapped victims and 39 human trafficking victims were successfully rescued and reunited with their families,” he said.

Evidence and property seized during the security operations included one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated firearm, 183 live ammunition rounds, three motor vehicles, one tricycle, four motorcycles, and 201 stolen livestock.

Additional recovered items encompassed 131 packages of illegal drugs, 100 metres of stolen high-tension electrical cables, and various other exhibits.

Sadiq emphasized the command’s continued dedication to fighting crime and called on citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies while avoiding the dissemination of false information.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to protect and serve the community. However, we caution against misinformation, as fake news can cause harm to individuals and society,” he warned.
