Soludo wins Anambra gov re-election bid

Chukwuma Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, has been declared the winner of the Anambra State governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission announced that Soludo polled 422,664 votes out of 584,054 total votes cast, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, who scored 99,445 votes. The African Democratic Congress followed with 8,208 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party secured 1,401 votes.

The results were declared by the State Collation Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Edogah Omoregie, at the INEC headquarters in Awka.

Across the 21 local government areas, APGA maintained a wide margin, recording strong wins in all LGAs. In Aguata, Soludo’s home area, APGA secured 35,559 votes while APC got 4,125. In Njikoka, APGA had 22,213 votes compared to APC’s 5,687, and in Orumba North, APGA scored 24,664 votes against APC’s 2,615.

Anambra West recorded the highest margin, with APGA polling 71,365 votes and APC 16,595. In Onitsha North and South, Soludo maintained dominance, winning 24,225 and 15,742 votes respectively.

With this victory, Soludo retains his seat as governor after leading in all 21 local government areas of the state.
