The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the death of the driver of the late Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Col. Abdullahi Bello (retd).

The driver, whose name has not been released, died on Saturday while receiving treatment for injuries he sustained in the crash that claimed the lives of the commissioner and his police orderly, Corporal Adamu Hussaini.

They were returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, after attending the North-East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration framework when the accident occurred along the Kwami–Malam Sidi–Gombe road.

In a condolence message on Saturday, the Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, described the deceased as dedicated public servants who gave their lives in service to Gombe State.

“The Gombe State Police Command extends its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Gombe State, as well as the families of the late Commissioner, his police orderly, and their driver, who died today while receiving treatment,” the statement said.

Abdullahi added that their deaths were a great loss not only to their families but to the entire state and the nation.

He said the Commissioner of Police, officers, and men of the command prayed for the repose of their souls and strength for their families to bear the loss.
